Our next campout is days away.  See the Upcoming Events page for more information.

Welcome to Florida Camping.  We hope that you will consider joining our club and sharing the fun and experiences membership brings.  Through the pages of our newsletter, the POP-UP PIONEER NEWS, we will provide camping and schedule updates, instructions on how to get to campgrounds, tips and tricks to make trailer life easier, reviews of completed camp outs and general news about the club and it’s members.  If you want to become a member right away, and not miss any of the camping fun, complete the application and mail it in with your check.

The club was "born" on August 1, 1992.  Eleven Coleman Pop-Up owners, along with David Brown (Dealer/Owner of Scott Sales-Affordable Campers), decided to form a "Coleman Pop-Up only" Club and go camping on a regular basis.  These days, members have just about every type of camper.

We try to go camping once a month at a campground (generally) within two hours of Jacksonville.  We usually get a discount group rate.

Unless the weekend is planned in conjunction with a holiday weekend, we usually arrive on Friday and depart on Sunday morning.  Since most people have to work on Friday, we have a solution to make things easier.  At each campout we have a "Wagonmeister" that sponsors the campout.

The "Wagonmeister" cooks a simple meal for everybody who wants to let someone else do the cooking and dishwashing on Friday night.  The standard "Wagonmeister" meal is hotdogs, beans, chips and coleslaw.  Some have cooked burgers, spaghetti, chicken or sloppy Joe's.  A simple little meal is all that's necessary.  The club reimburses the "Wagonmeister" for any expenses and the club pays for the "Wagonmeister's" Friday night camping fee (for volunteering).  The cost per camping unit for Friday nights meal is fixed at $8.00 per camping unit.  All you need to bring is your drinks.

For the Saturday night meal we usually have a "Pitch In" meal unless stated otherwise in the newsletter.  Everybody brings their own drinks, plates, utensils, napkins, etc. AND each camping unit brings a dish (enough to feed the people in your camper and some extra).  The dishes are usually salads, pasta dishes, casseroles and, of course, desserts.  Simple, easy dishes, nothing special or complicated unless you want to be.  Generally we will have our business meeting about 10 minutes after the supper and then congregate around a campfire.  We vote on the next campout and find a "Wagonmeister" at the meetings.  We are always looking for new campgrounds to visit, so suggestions are welcomed.

The club occasionally has "Side Trips" that are not official club functions, rather, that are "campouts-of-opportunity".  What usually happens is someone will plan a campout to the Blue Ridge Mountains (for example) and will extend an open invitation to anyone else who wants to tag along.  Side trips can be a one time shot deal or an annual occurrence.

As a member you will receive the newsletter monthly, which keeps you informed of up-coming campouts and who to call to make your reservations.  Hope to see you at the next campout.

Why Should I Join the Jacksonville Florida Pop-up Pioneers?

1. Increase your number of camp outs.  Most families don’t plan a camp out until the last minute.  Often, the weekend has already become dedicated to some special project or just the usual old yard work.  You will discover that having regular camp outs, scheduled in advance, allows for adjustment of those chores and other less important activities.

2. Getting a site.  The rapid increase of camping has resulted in the requirement of advanced reservations at most of the best campgrounds.   Since the camp out Wagonmeister takes care of those early trivial details as well as providing a meal Friday evening and informs you of the requirements through the newsletter, all you have to do is notify the host that you intend to go and follow their instructions for payment.

3. Camping Variety.  When you receive your camping schedule, you will note that we offer not only great geographical variety, but also a balance of class A (full hookups) and primitive (few or no services).  Each area and level of camping offers unique experiences and challenges.

4. Problems?  Did you forget your matches, or a flashlight?  Did you blow a fuse when you disconnected your power cord from your vehicle, or did you just happen to connect your battery cables backwards after your last recharge?  Well, no problem.  You have friends just a few feet away.  Members who have been with the Pop-up Pioneers for a few years have experienced most of these situations and are prepared to assist you as you experience camping in Florida.
